The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture is seeking applicants for the position of Museum Registrar. The Museum Registrar provides collections management for all objects owned by or on loan to the museum. This involves oversight of management, preservation, and storage of the collection, as well as collections management and registration oversight for all loans entering and leaving the museum. The Museum Registrar works to accomplish the museum's mission and to support its strategic direction as set by the director and senior leadership of the university, maintaining and developing positive relationships with academic units and entities across campus and in the community, as well as with professional organizations. More specific responsibilities include managing on-site and off-site collections, monitoring storage and display conditions, managing packing and shipping of collections and loans, creating and maintaining legal documents and histories of collection objects, organizing inventory projects, monitoring conservation needs, acting as courier or training couriers, facilitating loan agreements and exhibition contracts, managing budgets, overseeing documentation, coordinating object movement for exhibitions, developing departmental budget, managing invoices and expenditures, maintaining facility reports and policies, managing photographic rights and reproduction services, contracting photographers, supervising collection photography, overseeing Assistant Registrar/Database Administrator, recruiting and supervising student employees and volunteers, assisting visiting students and scholars, providing public advice on collection care, and teaching museum studies classes as needed. The position requires a master’s degree in museum studies, art history, or related discipline and 6 plus years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Expertise in fine art handling and experience in a museum or gallery setting preferred. Prior experience working with TMS required; experience with Media Studio preferred. Additional qualifications include excellent data and time management skills, attention to detail, and outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
