Director of Safety
$140,000 - $170,000 / year (D.O.E.)

The Safety Director will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company's safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role involves working closely with telecom construction teams, management, and regulatory bodies to maintain a safe working environment for 500 employees.

What you’ll do... (essential functions)

Reporting to the President and working closely with the Vice President and the Director(s) of Operations and Human Resources, as well as Dycom Safety personnel, you will be fully responsible for oversight, management, and administration of the Safety Program and its Safety Team including the following:

  1. Safety Program Development:
    • Design, implement, and continually improve comprehensive safety programs.
    • Develop and maintain safety policies and procedures in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
    • Develops, supports, adapts, and promotes safety programs and initiatives and monitors their effectiveness.
    • Develops and drives company safety strategy, in-line with the organization’s mission and goals.

  2. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay informed about local, state, and federal safety regulations applicable to the telecom and construction industry.
    • Ensure the company's compliance with all relevant safety standards and legislation.
    • Management, development and integration of all safety programs required for various customers and job sites.

  3. Training and Education:
    • Develop and conduct safety training programs for employees at all levels.
    • Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability throughout the organization.
    • Ensure an adequate competence management and training system for safety-related competencies.

  4. Incident Investigation:
    • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses.
    • Implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

  5. Site Inspections:
    • Conduct regular site inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
    • Collaborate with operation leadership to address safety concerns on construction sites.

  6. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, incidents, and training.
    • Prepare and submit reports to management and regulatory agencies as required.

  7. Claims Investigation and Management:
    • Work with internal and Dycom personnel to oversee and manage claims.

  8. Other tasks that may be assigned.

Who we’re looking for... (required skills for success)
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in safety management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Ability to travel 25% or when needed.
• Proven experience in the telecom construction industry, with a strong understanding of construction safety requirements.
• Familiarity with safety regulations in the states of operation.
• Ability to form, lead, motivate, mentor, manage, and direct a strong and effective team, with the ability to influence and drive a culture of safety and sustainability.
• Manage time and work schedules.
• Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, including executive management, as well as the ability to engage field employees.
• Strong business skills including team building, leading, influencing, resilience, and adaptability.
• Strong internal stakeholder management, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and research skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with significant experience with safety software, data analytic tools, and a focus on IT innovations.
• Ability to develop metrics to measure improvement of program expectations.
• Professional certifications in safety are advantageous: CPR, OSHA 30, OSHA 500, OSHA 510, Competent Person.
• Internal audit experience is advantageous.
